Vuurtoreneiland phase 1 finished →

Today was the ceremonial finissage of the renovation works of Vuurtoreneiland. With the lighting of the fire, the renovation formally ended. After a muddy winter and a rainy spring, the island is finally back in its original, lush green state. The fort and surrounding fortifications have been renovated and prepared for phase two. This summer, within the renovated fort, the restaurant will take shape. During the works, the summer restaurant will be open again, so you are welcome to take a look on the island by making a reservation for dinner, if you don't mind waiting for a few months. The island only accepts around 65 people per night.

The shed with the island's sustainable installations, clad in burnt wood, a Japanese preservation technique called Shou Sugi Ban.
