Architecture tips for this summer: 2 modernist classics worth visiting in Teheran: the Melli bank and the Museum of Modern Art.
Crowdfunding urbanism →
This weekend, we proposed, together with the community initative Mooier Bergen, a small scale alternative plan for the ambitious town development plans of the artists village Bergen. In the former fire station, the ideas were shown to the public and a fundraiser for development budget was set up. It was a busy afternoon, the local town band played, opinions were shared and collected for future use. It was a great showcase of the close involvement of the residents with their town.
Working on a masterpiece
Construction has started on the partial insertion of a space for modern art into SANAA's Kunstlinie in Almere. A very sensitive job, in which the original character is safeguarded as much as possible, in contact with the japanese architect. krft was contacted in 2014 to do the transformation of this contemporary monument.
Museum Arnhem →
Last week, the Kraaijvanger / krft / Kokke collective presented our vision for the new Arnhem Museum. Our vision consisted of a new state of the art exhibition space on the edge of the landscape, together with a reopening of the monumental 19th century Gentlemen's Club by using it for the public part of our program. As a second intervention, we want to add a new entrance on the south side, towards the city's cultural axis and its neighbour, the Art Academy.
Vuurtoreneiland phase 1 finished →
Today, the renovation of Vuurtoreneiland ended in ceremony with the lighting of the fire in front of the fortress. This is the first phase in the project, the second phase includes the making of the restaurant within the fort.
New project: Gilan, Iran →
Last week, we came back from northern Iran, from a site visit of our latest project: a double family house in Gilan, a green, northern coastal province of Iran. It has been a warm reception and an overall inspiring and fruitful trip to this country balancing between tradition and modernism. Read more stories here.
Singer motherboard →
Singer update: in the enormous gap next to the villa, the underground level is slowly starting to appear.
Kraaijvanger / krft / Kokke shortlisted for Arnhem museum extension →
The Arnhem museum selected 5 parties to compete for the museum's new extension: Benthem Crouwel, Cruz y Ortiz / Laura Alvarez, Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven / DRDH, SeArch and our combination Kraaijvanger / krft / Kokke.
The museum asks for an extension to the existing 19th century building by Outshoorn, taking in account the previous extensions from the 1950s and 2000s.

New Farms for Expo
After the formal launch in Pakhuis de Zwijger a few weeks ago, finally found some time to read the publication of the Milano workshop report, made by Carlo Venegoni and Gianpiero Venturini. Pretty solid it is.
Within the double volume, dedicated fully to regeneration of urban spaces, you can find the projects done by the students on the Milano farm houses together with a series of best practices of urban regeneration.
All of the major players in this complicated game of stakes take the floor, showing how ideas can get stakeholders from different angles to come together in a force of energy. This forging of communal interest is hard, but the large amount of successful examples shows the possibilities that city makers, especially architects have to take on this role.
Definately worth a place in all architecture libraries, so get your copy on Amazon.
New project: Cohousing in Buiksloterham part 2 →
This month we started our newest project: another 3 houses in co-design in Buiksloterham. 3 couples will design and build their projects together, 1 street away from our other co-housing project, which is under construction right now.
With the beautiful winter weather, we couldn't resist taking the drone to the new site. Here's a view of the Buiksloterham 3a area from the top. In between the road, the DIY markets and the electricity hub, we will build their paradise.
krft goes welding →
This weekend krft went on a welding course, enlarging our knowledge about materials and their application. You can expect a lot more steel use in our projects in the near future.

The first steps in the Vuurtoreneiland masterplan have been taken. The reconstruction works on the fortress will be the first step. A transformation in which the island will become a sustainable, self-supporting place for experiencing the open landscape and the ruins.
krft wishes everybody a happy new year and many of luck for 2016!
We had a wonderful 2015 and want to thank all for the cooperation and effort they have put into the work. We hope to see everybody very soon again coming year!
Construction on Co-housing started
The construction of our Co-housing project in the north of Amsterdam has begun. It is part of a transformation of the former industrial area Buiksloterham into a mixed used district. Former warehouses and car showrooms are replaced with small scale private housing development, without a fixed masterplan. The only shared ideological umbrella is an agenda of sustainable development, fixed in a manifesto called Circulair Buiksloterham.
Three families have decided to develop their plots together, creating space for a collective parking and garden.
Light, Space & Texture Exhibition
Here are some images from the exhibition in the Theatre School of the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture student work on Light Space & Texture, part of Gabriel Lester's artist in residency at the academy. Students experimented with odd and unusual materials to step out of their known material use. They researched the texture of the material and its relation to light and space. On display: Wax Domes and Sugar Towers to Fire Memory Cubicles and Light/Oil Surfaces. We were very impressed by their work. Maybe we'll see the first sugar highrise pop-up in a few years?

This june, KRFT will participate in the New Farms for Expo workshop, organized by New Generations, in which designers from over the world are going to collaborate on a vision of the reuse of abandoned in-urban farm houses, the Milanes 'cascines'. This connects to the overall theme of the Expo 2015 in Milano, curated by Herzog & De Meuron - Food vs. City.
